If starting a war on falsities is moral, then I'm the King of Kashmir...
Listen my friends, I am 100% for a strong American military and an alert national defense. With this current administration we have squandered both. In Iraq, we have started a military conflict on false pretenses. Many are at fault: "Scooter" Libby, Judith Miller of the NYTimes, Ahmed Chalabi (this guy is a damn war criminal - why don't we prosecute him as such?), Karl Rove, and Mr. George W. Bush himself. But no one has taken the blame, as they should if they were a truly moral people.
Instead we have made the situation worse. Militant Islamic Fundamentalism is the likely successor to Saddam Hussein's dictatorship. And that, unfortunately, is FAR, FAR WORSE. A fundamentalist Muslim theocratic council is 10X more fatalistic AND dangerous to the USA, than the secualar Saddam Hussein. So where does that leave us?
I don't have the answers, but I do have suggestions. For starters, though it pains me to say, we must NOT leave prematurely. We must secure a stable Iraqi government at nearly any cost. However, this could take years.
I would suggest to the Senate Democrats and the moderate Republicans: address your mistake if you voted for the war. Do not try to talk your way out of it. Nope: address it, and then address the FUTURE COURSE necessary for a stable Iraqi government. The past is just that: the past.
What do we do now?
God only knows.
